How It Fits with Brightstone
Brightstone Transitions provides the foundation — a structured, community-based program where young adults build skills, confidence, and independence.
Guided Transitions adds an optional layer of clinical support, offering therapy-informed coaching and family work to reinforce growth along the way.
Together, they create a continuum of care that meets each young person where they are and supports them every step forward.
Meet the Director
Jamila Minnifield, MA
Director of Guided Transitions
Jamila brings deep experience working with neurodiverse young adults in therapeutic and transitional settings. Her approach combines compassion, structure, and evidence-based strategies to help participants and families grow with clarity and confidence.
“Jamila has been such a huge blessing for our family who has provided support and comfort along with pushing us all to be better... better parents, better spouses, better kids... just better humans. We met Jamila when our 15-year son entered a wilderness program where she was the group therapist. Being a therapist to a group of troubled and very angry teenage boys is not for the faint of heart. Somehow, Jamila had these boys in the palm of her hand. She just gets them and helps them to self-reflect and to strive to be the best version of themselves.
While my son was in the wilderness program doing the hard work with Jamila, I was at home doing hard work with Jamila as well. She pushed me to realize what I needed to do as a parent to support my son when he came home. And a year later she is still helping to support me and my husband to understand our son and to respond in the best way we can when he is in crisis. She celebrates his successes as well and builds him up when needed. She builds us up when needed as well. We as a family would not be where we are without Jamila! We are far from out of the woods, but I know we can walk through those woods with Jamila by our side! ”

“As a parent, I will forever be grateful for the transformative experience my son had during his time in wilderness therapy with Jamila. From the very beginning, I felt fully supported through every step of the process—something I hadn’t expected but desperately needed. It was not just my son who grew through this journey; I did, too. I learned so much about his attachment patterns, the way his neurodivergent brain worked, and the ways in which I could show up for him more effectively, while simultaneously caring for myself.
Jamila is firm yet deeply supportive. She doesn’t take any nonsense from the boys — she holds them accountable with kindness, but she also reminds them, consistently, that they are bigger than their behaviors. That balance of structure and compassion was exactly what my son needed to begin trusting the process and believing in himself again.
Jamila also took the time to guide me as a parent. Through her insights and compassion, I began to see my son in a new light. I continue to work with Jamila because my son and I are constantly evolving and growing. With Jamila’s support, mistakes truly feel like growth opportunities and small wins are celebrated.
Our family has a renewed sense of hope and direction because of Jamila’s dedication and expertise.”
